The
Berlin
duo, Ellen Allien and Apparat is like the reunion of East and West
Germany, which had an impact on them during their youth. The period
after the wall made all things possible, no more borders. Berlin
became those days a destination for creative minds that were going
against the flow in search for alternatives, even so is this
bringing them now together and gives them an outlet for their
creative minds.
Their album Orchestra Of Bubbles has algorithmic, mechanical
or even minimal sounds drenched in deep earthy basses, symphonic
strings and angelic voices. The album is as a chronicle of moods and
emotions.
The
opening song of the album “Turbodreams” sets the tone with a
bombastic sub-tone and whistling melodies. The song makes you dream
away, watching the bright sky and its fluffy clouds that are
strangely raging too fast by. A feeling that makes your body drift
through the whole album but doesn’t give you time to relax with the
numerous uplifting moments.
As
live dj’s they connect genres, styles and audiences and fill the
room with sound as like on there set in October at I Love Techno in
Ghent. Their set was programmed after Kraftwerk, whose song “Model”
changed the pop culture when they were young. The Yellow Room was
filled with electro fan’s wondering if their live set was as good as
the album. Their expectations were going to be fulfilled. Apparat
dealt with the foundation, the beats and bass, while Ellen set the
tunes, tones and melodies while singing and dancing next to her
instrument panel. Creating an atmosphere with fulfilling dance, a
lust for life, making the room become their room.
Orchestra Of Bubbles
is a must have in your electronic music collection, a glance-full
union of two wonderful musicians who differ in their sounds but
brought together to a perfect melody.
